No Fairytale Here

So, I've been in Germany now for about 10 weeks. Wow!  I don't love it yet, but I hear that is very common. It's such a tough adjustment to go through - we come from a country that has easy, 24-hour access to any and everything, to a country that closes up shops by 6 pm everyday, and closes completely down on Sunday's. The focus here is more family oriented, which definitely isn't a bad thing - in fact, its something that we are welcoming. The closest "fast food" restaurant is close to 15 minutes away, and when I say fast food, I only mean that in the sense that it isn't a sit down restaurant. It serves schnitzel sandwiches and a Turkish Döner Kebap, a lamb sandwich which is very yummy.  I'm still trying to get used to the TV situation (about 6 channels to choose from, and the traditional channels from home (ABC, NBC, CBS) are all combined into random lineups of channels), and the lack of American radio stations. There is only one - the AFN network, which would be fine, except that I don't receive that channel in my home. Therefore, I listen to a lot of Phil Collins and Journey on German radio stations.

I thought that I would love the weather here, as I hate going out into the hot, Texas summer sun as much as anyone can, but we have seen the sun maybe 7 days total since we have been here. Today it is grey & overcast & drizzly & blah.

I have so many stories to share, but I'm just in a rough patch right now, and sometimes writing is the last thing that I could possibly do in a day. My days have blurred into one continuous, monotonous day, and right now I can't see out of my own fog. I realize that no one is hanging on the words that I write, but I want to get the stories out for myself as well.

Hope to be back soon, friends.....
